The Jasper Garden Studio is designed to be an oasis of light and space and will a wonderful addition to any backyard and garden.
Jasper Backyard Studio design elements
The Jasper Backyard Studio brings together the best elements of European studio design, German engineering, and Canadian materials. The Jasper Backyard Studio uses German engineered glazing, so that nearly all of the front wall is glazed. This is German quality UPVC frames strengthened with steel inserts.
European construction methods mean we can erect a studio in just about any location. Uneven ground we can level out with ground screws. Difficult access, as long as there is a path we can walk along we can get everything we need to site, no need for craning into position. Studios are delivered as prefabricated flat packs ready to be assembled. So, there is minimum cutting or painting on site. Less noise, disturbance, dust, and waste.
Canadian weather is tough, a challenge of temperature extremes, high and low humidity, rain, hail, snow, and wind. You need to be able to protect against all these elements. To do that we use LP SmartSide for our cladding, it is a super tough, super popular siding material used by many homebuilders. Under the cladding we wrap the building using an adhesive membrane and all joints sealed with sealant to ensure we have a tight building envelope and no drafts.
The roof is metal clad and white. A bad hailstorm may add the odd dent but that’s it. And the white paint in summer is there to reflect heat helping to keep things cool. Winter days are kept in check with effective insulation, minimum R22 Rockwall in the floor and walls, with the roof being R30.
Delivery and Build process
We can deliver the Yoho to almost any location. Because we do all the hard work in our Calgary factory our focus when we get to your backyard can be on getting things right. So what does delivery look like?
– Day 1 we make sure the foundations are good and level, the skid goes in, next the walls and the roof.
– Day 2 is putting in the glass frontage and interior panels.
– Day 3 is finishing and then you can move in.
Doors and windows
The Jasper Garden Office comes with 9 feet of premium glass frontage. The standard arrangement for the frontage is a center door which can be either a swing open door or a slide door opening to the left. These are German engineered doors fabricated here in Canada.
We deliberately have a 1 foot wall on each side of the windows. This is for two reasons, the first is boring and structural, the second practical. A lot of people find it very useful to put a book shelf or some general shelfing at on end of their garden studio, having this small wall gives you a good place to put it.
Why do we go with German engineered doors, are simple quality, performance and price. The design details we get with regards to seals, door movements, tilt and turn windows and structural strength are as good as anything else available on the market. And the quality has to match the same as that that would be made in Germany. And performance wise these windows are designed to be used in passive housing and northern Europe all places that need high performance and low maintenance.

- 12′ x 8′ layout gives plenty of work space at the same time as not needing a building permit
- Fully glazed 9 foot front wall allows in plenty of natural light
- A slopping (1:10) gradient metal roof.
- Roof and ceiling is 4inch white insulated metal panels with R30 insulation with a 2 to 4″ overhang at the back
- Walls are clad in LP SmartSide panels, these can be painted in our standard colours or on request your own choice of colours.
- There is a choice for the cladding panels between the standard ‘Cedar Texture’ we use and ‘Smooth Finish” panels
- The walls are finished as board and batten with battens every 24″, this gives a real nice detail to the backyard office
- Insulation is Rockwool R22 for walls, floor and roof.
- Framing is 2×6’s all-round with 16in framing for the floor skid Interior finish is white painted flat paneling
- Wall corners have ¾” coving. 2.5” white trim around windows and baseboards
- Flooring is from selection of laminate flooring with underlay
Modular Prefabricated Garden Office
Just like our backyard offices and studios our backyard sheds and workshops are prefabricated in Calgary factory. We then transport the modules to your backyard to your backyard and can quickly assemble them onsite without the mess of a traditional construction site.
